There are three different types of thermal transfer ribbons which are listed and explained below to help make your decision hassle free.
Wax thermal transfer ribbons are the most economical choice for general purpose tag and labelling applications. Chose a wax ribbon when printing on uncoated and coated paper stocks and some low end synthetic materials. Wax thermal transfer ribbons are ideal in applications where the label is purely for identification purposes and will be thrown away as part of the packaging.
Wax resin thermal transfer ribbons are the best choice for when a higher level of scratch/smear resistance is needed in labelling applications. Wax resin printer ribbons print well on coated paper stocks, polythene and polypropylene material.
Resin thermal transfer ribbons are for labelling in harsh environments requiring resistance to abrasion, high temperatures and/or chemicals. Resin printer ribbons are recommended for use on polyesters and other high end synthetic materials.
